Say ‘I Do’ to Local Blooms

Hi! I’m Mikayla, a Salt Lake City based wedding and event florist. I am a huge fan of local flowers! Here in Utah, we have so many local flower farms to source flowers from! I didn’t even know this until I became a wedding florist.

My biggest priority when I design flowers for a wedding is to have fresh, high quality product.

Florists typically purchase flowers from wholesalers, who get flowers shipped from all over the world. The wholesalers in Utah typically get most of their flowers from Ecuador, Colombia, and Holland! These flowers from other countries are usually good, but they’ve been without water as they’ve been shipped in a box to the USA. On the other hand, when I purchase local flowers from flower farmers, the stems were just recently cut, have never left a water source, and are just THE freshest you can find. Because they are so fresh, they have a higher endurance and can last longer than flowers that come from the wholesaler. This is especially important for flowers that are drama queens, like dahlias and cosmos.

Another big advantage of working with local flowers is that I get to handpick each flower I use for my brides! When flowers are shipped to the wholesaler, I don’t choose them. I am handed a bunch of roses and it may the only bunch of that variety in the building! Sometimes, they are damaged or moldy. I love being able to choose each individual flower I use for my brides! What’s even more special: if you book your wedding with me early enough, flower farms may PLANT your wedding flowers especially for you!

Shopping local has become a huge part of my business. Utah flower farms are typically in business between April to October. So if you are a spring, summer, or fall Utah bride, most of your flowers will be locally sourced from Utah flower farms! If you purchase a Bucket of Blooms from our website, you will also be getting local flowers! I will continue to advocate for and use local flowers during my floral career. If you are looking for a wedding florist for your Utah wedding, please reach out! I’d love to talk to you about how local flowers will enhance the quality of your wedding day!
